VOGUE Africa? + Africa Fashion Week New York 2011

A little over a year ago, a photographer by the name of Mario Epanya decided to make mock covers of what Vogue Africa could look like. After sending his work to Vogue publisher, Conde’ Nast, the idea for the magazine was rejected. With no explanation as to why, anticipating readers were left to question his decision. Vogue is currently published in 18 countries. Some would argue to say that Vogue Africa should not exist because Africa is a continent, not a country. I say if this is truly the case, there are 53 countries within Africa: Pick ONE :)

Here are a few examples of Mario Epanya's work.

Although fashion in Africa is not gracing the pages of Vogue, Africa Fashion Week New York is proud to highlight this slightly hidden treasure. This is the second year of AFWNY, produced by Adiree. Twenty-four fashion designers from all over Africa will have their designs floating the runway during the week of July 11th through the 17th of 2011 in the Broad Street Ballroom of New York City.
