Exhibit: Model Art Collection by Kaori Nik

On December 16, 2011 artist Kaori Nik will present The Model-Art Collection to showcase some of the many great artists of Chicago through several exhibits that will take you on a ride through art's history with a modern and dynamic approach.

The Model-Art Collection is a collaborative project that involves some of Chicago's most talented photographers, models, designers and stylists all led by the artistic vision of, visual artist, Kaori Nik. The collection includes eight editions of photography works covering a wide span of historical art eras such as: Cubism, Dadaism, the Renaissance and Artistic Expressionism.

Pieces De Fine
Concept: Cubism/Graffiti
Fashion, Beauty photographer Luis DeAndre and racy,
urban designer Ashley Fox come together to produce the
editorial works of "Pieces De Fine"

P.O.P.

Concept: 50's/Andy Warhol

Glamour photographer, Aderon Mothersill, adds a
colorful twist to this edition inspired by the works of

Andy Warhol. Javier Camacho styles in 50s fashion

as well as designs a Marilyn Monroe dress.

ReFined
Concept: The Renaissance woman
Beauty photographer, Devon Hood, lights up this set focusing on women of color and voluptuous curves. Emphasizing the body of the early age model, stylists
Tresbelle drape models in rich silk fabrics and accessorize with gold and metallic.

Concept: Dadaism/The Twilight Zone

Fashion and runway photographer Christopher Free contributes to this edition inspired by the mindlessness of Dadaism and the eeriness of the 50's TV show The Twilight Zone. Models were styled by designer, Dwight Overton.

Concept: 20's/30's
Urban photographer Ten Photos, known for the color of his works, puts his spin on this 1930's/20's edition.

POWER
Concept: Greek Mythology

Brit Woollard, published photographer, creates canvas

worthy pieces of Fitness model Rashidat Owe.

This futuristic take on the female you excited.

Finals
Concept: Artistic Expressionism
Bradley Murray captures abstract smoke suggestions on chalk board, reminiscent of the 1940 smoke ads but with a modern twist.

On October 30th Chicago's Fashionable Addictions Boutique held its fall fashion show entitled R.I.P. the Runway presented by stylist Aaja Corinne. The show featured fashions from Chicago designers: BOUYE’ Designs, Hand Candy (Custom bags), Leslie Dominique (Custom leather pieces), LBM, Kelli Anthony, 828, HYE, 7evolution, Spoiled Divas (Custom shoes) and NYACHI.

Wanda Grace promoted their fall 2011 line during a walking fashion show on the streets of Chicago. Dressed in pieces from the current collection, models graced the streets with picket styled signs promoting the newly launched Style Borrow and WandaGrace.com. The promo took place during Fashion Focus Week in Chicago. The Wanda Grace team even walked their promo through an open to the public shopping event presented by Fashion Focus Chicago, where the crowd was stunned and shocked by the unexpected surprise of fashion models walking through the aisles of the tent as they mingled and shopped. Afterwards, the team took the promo to the streets where cameras and curiosity
were oh so present.

It's hard to believe that we released our first print issue December 2007 and now we are facing the end of 2011. I'm proud of the 25 issues we've released (even though I've been hard to please) and since we've taken a little time off, I thought what better way to pass the time than with some of our best pieces over the years. There are no ads, no table of contents, no letter from me, just cover to cover features, social commentary and vivid images. There are so many great features but I picked some of my personal favorites ranging from a debate on hip-hop's whereabouts to the prison industrial complex to our usual music, art + fashion features. There really are too many to talk about, so take a minute to view or download this compilation issue to reminisce or get familiar with who we are.

Y-3 answers London's call for its Spring/Summer 2012 collection, in honor of the host city’s upcoming 2012 Summer Olympic games. Shown in New York’s Soho district as part of New York fashion week, Y-3 took a tour of British style and Olympic sport, all in the essence of Yohji Yamamoto, the label’s designer. Offering sport as a theme, Y-3 presented unique takes on Olympic style, filtered through the street aesthetic of Londontown. This meant clever renditions of classic English checks, graphic Mod-era prints, rough-and-tumble workwear, and the Union Jack. Models walked the runway to a sound track of Tokio Hotel and Miyavi, while a front-row crowd including Dwight Howard, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Pitt, and Peaches Geldof looked on.

Recently, I received a personal invite to attend the launch of Emalon, a new ready-to-wear or prêt-à-porter line by the owner of Fashion House Chicago, Melissa Taylor. The show was a mix of original designs and reconstructed vintage pieces.

Fashion shows are one of my favorite events to attend and with two of my favorite models, Liz Harvey and Kat Harris, working the runway, I was definitely looking forward to this one!
